Janet Yates is more than a familiar face in Charleston’s performing arts scene—she’s a storyteller, a woman who knows how to inhabit a role with authenticity and depth. When she stepped into my studio for her boudoir session, she brought with her not just beauty, but the presence of someone who understands the subtle language of expression.
Our goal was to blend her natural poise with the timeless glamour of Old Hollywood. The session began with soft, sculpted lighting and elegant wardrobe choices that complemented her classic features. As the camera clicked, she moved with a quiet confidence, letting moments of vulnerability shine through.
What struck me most was how Janet balanced the performer’s instinct to “play to the lens” with a grounded, genuine connection. Every frame told a different story—some bold, some intimate—all woven together into a visual narrative worthy of the silver screen.
This portfolio captures more than just portraits; it’s a tribute to Janet’s artistry and the enduring elegance that only grows with experience. Whether in front of a theater audience or the lens, Janet embodies the truth that confidence, beauty, and presence are timeless.
Most important, are the wonderful words of praise that Janet has posted on Facebook about her experience. The screenshot below shows how beautiful she felt and how much she enjoyed the experience:

Working with Janet was like stepping into a scene from a perfectly lit, vintage film. As an actress, she knows instinctively how to use her body and her expressions to tell a story. Yet, what struck me most wasn’t her skill—it was the ease and authenticity she brought to the experience. There was no artifice, only a woman completely comfortable in her own presence.
We began with a selection of elegant lingerie and a silk robe, letting her move naturally as the lighting sculpted her features into something both classic and cinematic. (This is where I often remind clients that wardrobe can be as simple or elaborate as they wish, as long as it reflects who they are—more on that in my boudoir styling guide.)
A week later, Janet and I met for her reveal session. As the portraits appeared on the screen, there was a quiet, knowing smile on her face—the kind of smile that says, Yes, that’s me… and I love what I see. Her testimonial that followed captured the heart of what I aim for in every session: to create portraits that feel like truth, told beautifully.
